This "big head" was created in a summer class that I took at the University of Virginia in 2017. It is constructed of paper mache in the tradition of the Spanish heads used in festivals using paper imported from Spain. I took the head to Burning Man in 2017 and had many burners autograph the head. The beard is made from a mop head that I died and then braided while adding wooden beads.

SANDY HOOK PROMISE
The idea for this sculpture was derived from the logo for the Sandy Hook Promise organization. Sandy Hook Promise was formed after the tragic shootings in Sandy Hook Elementary School on December 14, 2013 that claimed the lives of 20 first graders and 6 educators. The mission of Sandy Hook promise is to prevent the causes of gun violence and to help the community through the tragedy. The cast hands used in this sculpture are of children and adults from Baker Butler Elementary School in Albemarle County and were used in my sculpture “In Our Hands” located at Echoes of Nature Park.

FEATURE STUDIES IN BRONZE
These three facial feature studies were sculpted in clay while I was participating in a sculpture workshop held in Seravezza, Italy in September 2001. They were cast in bronze in the fall of 2013 at the University of Virginia. This project was a part of my continuing studies in sculpture at the University which I have done for seventeen years. I did everything but the pouring of the bronze.
